Niall Ó Donnghaile is a Sinn Féin Senator from the Short Strand in East Belfast.

A former member of Belfast City Council for the Pottinger & redrawn Titanic Constituencies, in 2011 Niall made history when he was elected Belfast’s youngest ever Mayor at the age of just 25.

A politics graduate from the University of Ulster, Niall was educated entirely through the medium of the Irish language at nursery, primary and post primary levels. Niall has worked in the community sector since his teens and developed a reputation as a grassroots activists and spokesperson for his isolated and vulnerable community in the East of the city, particularly during periods of inter-community tension and conflict.

Niall currently sits on a number of Joint Oireachtas Committees including Justice & Equality, the Implementation of the Good Friday Agreement and is a member of the Special Seanad Select Committee on Brexit.

Niall has travelled extensively internationally on of both Sinn Féin, Belfast City Council and the Oireachtas.

Niall publishes a regular column for the Belfast Media Group and is the Sinn Féin spokesperson on North-South Integration.IMG_-x3ly4d
